I: Welcome To The EgregoryJohn Constantine could see angels and demons. To have Constantine vision is to be able to see egregores and nephilims. They’d die without us, and we’d be only animals without them. Egromancy (the art and science of growing Egregores) All egregores started in the heart of a human artist. Through their speech and behavior, they pull the egregore out of them and spread it to others. Because all egregores come from human artists, we each have the ability to give birth to new egregores. There are two types of egregores we're going to focus on: DEVAs are egregores that grow from the soul of a dharma artist that has acquired legal armor. Said another way, DEVAs are dharmaically oriented businesses. NEVAs are the modern nephilims. DEVAs are designed to benefit the next generation. DEVAs cultivate the future. NEVAs are what we are contending with if we want to pull our culture out of it’s death spiral. The hill I’m standing on: You have a DEVA in you, and you are morally obligated to bring it forth. This means learning egromancy and egronomics. That means entrepreneurship. That means selling. That means putting yourself in front of others and sharing a story that could help build the future. It means being a leader.
"I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce and agriculture in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, and architecture.” -John Adams We study egromancy and egronomics so our children can have children who will breath fresh air and grow up safely on land lined with trees that bear fruit. II. A RefresherThis is the 3rd installment of the Egregore series. The Tool: Mother-Father-God-Lover Part 100% of my negative, scary, or bad ‘encounters’ with ‘entities’ has been alchemized by the Mother-Father-God-Lover lens. If you find yourself preoccupied with ‘what if i’m cursed,’ download the packets in this first article and clear your mind before continuing. My goal with the second article is to give you Constantine Vision; which reveals the Egregores and the war of our time. Egregore 101The entities dominating our world (that don’t give a damn about your protection rituals) are called egregores. They dominate our world primarily in the forms of Nation States, Ideologies, and Corporations. Egregore 202Egregores endow us with powers we could not access without them. Also understood as organizing stories, coordination in this context, is the ability to synchronize the intention of a vast number of people such that they work more as a hive instead of self-interested individuals. Restaurants. Bands. Militaries. The situation is Renaissance, or Cataclysm, and coordination is the Archimedes lever.
The United States, Russia, and China are Egregores that have all of these powers. Your local coffee shop might have corporate power, meme power, and landform power. The Dharma Artist Collective has more myth power than Panda Express, but Panda Express has much more Landform power. A rule of thumb; the greater the number of powers an egregore collects, the stronger it’s potential influence on culture (and where culture is going). For the nerds out here, a potential taxonomy of egregores could be based on what combinations of powers the egregore has. Now lets talk about DEVAs and NEVAs. DEVAs are dharmically oriented corporations. NEVAs are nephilimatic corporations. If you work for one of those NEVAs, wake the fuck up. DEVAs are the vehicle through which you and I can disproportionally impact the culture and help build the future. Introducing the True Enemy: MolokJust like Joseph Campbell’s hero had 1000 faces, the enemy has 1000 faces; and don’t get it twisted, there is an enemy. The face I find most aptly captures the enemy’s essence is Molok - a god known for demanding the sacrifice of children. Molok is the disposition any egregore can corrode into. Molok is a NEVA that eats the future to maximize profit this quarter. All egregores are susceptible to Molok. The immune system of every egregore are the individual whispers in the hearts of the people who give their attention and belief to the egregore. III. How To Birth a DEVAYou may find it surprising, but one of my most controversial ideas is that I believe everyone who is drawn to my work is meant to birth a DEVA. That means you. I believe you’re smuggling a piece of the mosaic of the future we’d all be proud to pass on to the next generation. I believe you are meant to be a leader, to run a company (pilot a DEVA), and be a steward to the next generation. I don’t believe any of you are meant to ‘just be’ anything less. And this triggers people I’ve taught over the years. And I understand. It is a brutal calling, to have the sensitivity of an artist, but the obligations of a leader. But when you learn to see the egregore war, your goodness and your aching grief will not let you go until you commit to the path to do what is yours to do to help baton pass as much of the good, true, and beautiful into the next generation. I've been reviewing my life path the last decade and have found there are 3 major phases my DEVA building has moved through. I'll introduce them here, and in the next article I'll get into the deep details. Phase 1: Triage Phase 1 begins the moment you realize that you have a calling, and that you're going to have to renegotiate reality to live it. Our culture is not designed for us to live our calling. You will have to break rules, risk judgement, ignore doubt, and make it happen. Phase 1 ends when you no longer resent what you do for work. For me, the Triage Phase took 3 years. It started when I was working at Chipotle and ended when I got hired at my personal dream job. When I started, I didn't own a credit card and didn't know what an entrepreneur was. By the end of the Triage stage I lived, ate, and breathed my work. I was only making $27k a year, but I was on fire. Diagnostic Question #1: Do you resent how you make money? When the answer is no, you have completed the triage phase. Phase 2, Freedom, starts the moment you realize you can’t be an employee anymore. You realize your calling demands you free yourself from anyone else being able to tell you what to do and when you have to do it. Phase 2 is complete when you have figured out how to make enough money per month that you leave the employee game for good. This took me 7 years. At the end of my 4th year at Onnit, they started the long process of selling the company and massive changes were made. A part of those changes encouraged me to educate myself on the financial game. I created a LLC, my first product (the Journaling Course), and started my life as a freelancer. However, it took 3 more years for me to start consistently making enough money myself before I could start saying no to big contracts. It took me a total of 7 years to to pass the second diagnostic question. Diagnostic Question #2: Are you free to design your time in accord with your calling? (are you free to design your calendar as you wish, do what you feel called too, and know that you will be able to pay your bills?) If no, you are in Phase 2. If yes, congratulations; your soul is coming to fuck you up (in a good way) Note: During the Triage Phase and Freedom Phase, our soul seems to be more accommodating of what we do for work. You can start a laundry mat, learn how to flip garage sales on ebay, or build an ad agency massively overcharging unknowing Gen Zers, and your soul will be relatively satisfied. However, once you've reached a level of financial security, it's as if your soul knows, and incomes a life-altering illness, injury, breakup, or death. This is the call of Phase 3. There is something in you that knows humanity is at a precipice. It will force you to shift your focus from yourself to the next generation. Since our culture lacks elders and wisdom keepers, our psyches appear to initiate ourselves. The difference between our Freedom Phase and our Dreamwalking Phase is the orientation of our work. Said another way, Dreamwalking is becoming a DEVA pilot. Whatever you do for work is something you enjoy, something that generates enough wealth for you to feel free, and helps feed the next generation. Phase 3, Dreamwalking, starts the moment you realize 3 things:
Phase 3 does not mean creating a billion dollar company (although for some it might). Being a DEVA pilot could be building a regenerative bee farm, or a travel business taking people to sacred sites. The key is you know that the way you make money is broadcasting your dharma into the culture. The size of the number does not matter. What matters is you can look yourself in the mirror and with every cell of your body knows you are showing up to the egregore war with your DEVA. At my current level of development, I don't see what comes after this, but I imagine I will be in this phase for at least as long as it takes to raise my children. Diagnostic Question #3: Does your vocation broadcast your dharma into culture and generate enough wealth for you that you are free to design your time? If the answer is yes, show us how you did it. Share your story. If the answer is no, don't worry, in the next article (which might end up being very long), I am going to share my full journey, and do my best to highlight what worked best along the way. It took me 10 years to go from starting Phase 1 to starting Phase 3. After I teach my last Mentally Fit class, the focus of the next chapter of my work is to help as many of you go from triage to dreamwalking. My dream is that everyone I know has built their own beautiful, powerful DEVA that helps others and pays their bills. I imagine each DEVA like a superhero, and I want there to be hundreds of us. I want a mfckn Renaissance, Song I'm Listening on RepeatThis at .85% -- it bangs Teaching Mentally Fit One Last TimeIf this perspective resonates with you, and you haven't taken my Mentally Fit class, I'm teaching it one more time from October 28th to December 30th. If you're reading these words right now, and you haven't taken the class, it is made for you. Trust me. The price increases November 28th, so if you feel the call, take the leap now. Quote I'm Enjoying“I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce and agriculture in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, and architecture.” |
Every week, I bring the best of what I've gathered. Enjoy the feast.
As of the minute I write this sentence, I am 24 hours away from stepping out of the steaming doorway of a sweat lodge, and walking to a spot in nature where I will sit alone for 4 days -- without food or water. The circle is made of 411 prayer flags woven through 4 long strands of string. A prayer flag is a little square of cloth with a pinch of tobacco in the center. I spent the past week cutting each square, adding each pinch of tobacco, wrapping the square into a little pouch, and then...
I am both a child of God, and a child of the simulacrum generation of American culture; a 90s baby. I lived on fake food, primetime television, pop radio, the full vaccine schedule, and a Prozac commercial every 8 minutes repeating the chemical imbalance lie. I was told I didn't have a soul, and that there wasn't microplastics collecting in my testes. Both were lies. Not many people talk about what it means to have a soul during the collapse of an empire. When I say soul, I mean the the same...
In 17 days I'll be walking out of a sweat lodge and guided to a spot under a tree, where, for the following 4 days, I'll sit without food or water, listening. To nature, to the voices in my head, the pulses from my body, and god willing, visions sent by the dreamer. I'm nervous, and honored. I'll have a sleeping bag and a tarp. They tell me the tobacco will protect from the scorpions and snakes. I tell myself this quest will protect my dharma from the creeping opiate we call comfort. My...
